Dougal Phillips

Dougal Phillips is a senior clinical neuropsychologist based in Melbourne working in private practice and public health and is the director of PsyAx.

Dougal works with people who may be experiencing psychological distress or difficulties with their memory, concentration or other thinking skills.

Dougal has a Master of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology) from the University of Melbourne. He is fully endorsed as a clinical neuropsychologist by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Dougal has a friendly, practical approach. His assessments are responsive and hypothesis-driven, and his feedback is clear, timely, and helpful.

In addition to private practice, Dougal has extensive hospital-based experience working with patients under general medicine, aged care, psychiatry, acquired brain injury, stroke, neurology, cardiac rehabilitation, and neurorehabilitation.

Dougal is also a Psychology Board of Australia (PBA) approved supervisor for neuropsychology registrars and for provisional psychologists in higher degree programs.

Dougal has experience completing medico-legal assessments for use in WorkCover, road injury, TAC, and insurance claims as well as assessments of decision making capacity.
Dougal has written hundreds of reports for the Victorian Civil and Administration Tribunal (VCAT) where he has also appeared as an expert witness.

Prior to his career as a neuropsychologist, Dougal worked as a professional counsellor for BeyondBlue, Mensline Australia, Veterans Line, and the Australian Defence Force All-hours Support Line.

Dougal is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and the College of Clinical Neuropsychologists. He is registered with Medicare, WorkSafe, the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

In addition to his work at PsyAx, Dougal works in the neurorehabilitation program at Caulfield Hospital which is part of Alfred Health.

Dougal has a special interest in medicolegal assessments, veteran's health, dementia diagnosis, language disorders, aged psychiatry, acquired brain injury,  and the assessment of decision making capacity.
